MOSCOW, (RIA Novosti) – A total of 80 kg (over 176 lbs) of heroin were discovered on a train en route from the Tajik capital of Dushanbe to Moscow on Wednesday, the Russian Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry said that law-enforcers found a cache with plastic bottles “containing a dark gray substance, presumably heroin, weighting 80 kg in total.” The amount is equal to 800 000 average single doses, according to the Russian legislation.

Sixteen people face federal charges for conspiring to distribute cocaine in Arkansas from Mexico.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Little Rock held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to announce the charges, which totaled 25 indictments handed down by a federal grand jury.

The investigation centers around the Gulf Cartel, based out of Matamoros, Mexico. The cartel is alleged to have distributed “multiple hundreds of kilograms of cocaine in the United States,” according to a news release.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA – A police source tells Action News that a popular DJ who was murdered in South Philadelphia over the weekend had a large amount of drugs in his apartment.

Tom Watson, 36, also known as DJ Fenix, was shot around 3:45 a.m. Saturday inside the Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream shop on the 200 block of South Street.

Police say Watson was going to his apartment located above the shop when he was attacked.

On Monday, police sources say that they found a large amount of cocaine and marijuana in his apartment.

WASHINGTON (UPI) — Mexican national Aurelio Cano Flores, a high-ranking member of the Gulf Cartel, was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison for drug-trafficking.

Cano Flores, 40, was given the prison term by a federal judge in the District of Columbia for conspiring to import tons of cocaine and marijuana into the United States, the Drug Enforcement Administration said in a release.

Cano Flores was ordered to forfeit $15 billion (sic) in drug proceeds, the federal law enforcement agency said. The money represents the gross receipts federal authorities allege the Gulf Cartel took in from distributing [...]

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says 81 people were arrested on drug-related charges after a lengthy investigation by local and state authorities.

The KBI said in a news release Thursday that arrests were made Tuesday and Wednesday in and around Junction City, Manhattan, Grandview Plaza and Ogden. Many of the arrests involved conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

Investigators seized a variety of narcotics and 17 firearms. The KBI says several children were placed in protective custody after the arrests.

A brother of two top leaders for one of the most powerful drug cartels in Mexico was convicted Thursday of buying racehorses to hide illegal drug profits.

A federal jury that deliberated for about nine hours over two days found Jose Trevino Morales, 46, guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Trevino faces up to 20 years in prison.

Morales owns a home in Balch Springs that was raided by the FBI in June. One of the horses from the operation, called Tremor Enterprises LLC, won the Dash for Cash at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie.

Massachusetts – Holyoke City police raided a home on 186 Suffolk St. and arrested five people on a variety of drug charges and seized crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana and prescription pills.

The five people, Joel Rojas, 37; Johan Colon, 29; Yashira Rivera, 26; Samara Vazquez, 26 and Angel Rojas, 42, were arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Monday. Arraignment information was not available Monday night.

Four of the five people arrested live at 186 Suffolk and Colon lives at 60 N. East St., said Lt. Matthew Moriarty.
