Alejandrina Giselle Guzman Salazar was arrested on Friday October 13th as she intended to enter the United States at the San Isidro crossing near San Diego using false papers. When she was questioned by U.S Customs and Border Protection agents she allegedly identified herself as the daughter of Mexico’s most wanted drug lord, Chapo Guzman.
Guzman Salazar, who is pregnant, was supposedly intending to enter the country to give birth.

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 16 (UPI) — A Phoenix man, among 20 people indicted on charges of buying firearms in Arizona for use by Mexican drug cartels, was sentenced to nearly five years in prison.
Danny Morones, 28, the first of the so-called Fast and Furious defendants to be sentenced, drew a 57-month prison term Monday in the case tried in San Diego, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Morones pleaded guilty to acting as a “straw purchaser” of high-powered weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles, and to recruiting others to buy weapons.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The daughter of one of the world’s most sought-after drug lords has been arrested on suspicion of trying to enter the United States on someone else’s passport, U.S. officials said Monday.
Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar was arrested Friday at San Diego’s San Ysidro port of entry and charged with fraud and misuse of visas, permits and other documents.

SAN DIEGO — A man identified by prosecutors as an operative for Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel was charged with building two major cross-border drug tunnels, according to a federal indictment unsealed Wednesday.
Jose Sanchez Villalobos is accused of building, financing and overseeing the secret passages, which have proliferated along the U.S.-Mexico border in recent years as heightened enforcement on land has pushed smugglers underground. Previous prosecutions in connection with the tunnels have named low-ranking truckers and their supervisors who pick up loads of marijuana at warehouses in the United States after they already crossed the border.

NACO, AZ (Tucson News Now/AP) – One Border Patrol agent has died and another has non-life threatening injuries following a shooting in Naco, according to a Border Patrol spokesperson.
Both agents were assigned to the Brian Terry Station in the Tucson Sector. They were shot while patrolling shortly after midnight Tuesday.
A third agent was patrolling with these agents, but was unharmed during the shooting, according to Carol Capas of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting occurred off of Highway 80, seven miles east of Bisbee, Capas stated.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A Border Patrol agent fatally shot a 32-year-old mother of five Friday in suburban San Diego as he rode on the hood of her car after she ran into him, authorities and family members said.
The agent fired after being driven several hundred yards on the hood, Chula Vista police Capt. Gary Wedge told The Associated Press. The woman was later identified in a police statement as Valeria Alvarado.

(AP) Two men were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Friday for their roles in a Mexican drug gang that dissolved victims’ bodies in acid.
Jose Olivera, 38, got five consecutive life terms and David Valencia, 42, got two consecutive life terms for charges including murder and kidnapping. They were the first defendants to go on trial in a case that prosecutors say is one of the worst examples of Mexican drug violence spilling across the border into the United States.

A drug crackdown in San Diego County known as “Operation Cruel Summer” has resulted in the arrest of 34 suspects in a drug and firearms trafficking operation.
On Tuesday, several law enforcement agencies and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department took part in a take down that involved seizing 40 pounds of marijuana, 11 ounces of heroin, 31 pounds of cocaine, 25 pounds of methamphetamine, 28 firearms and $166,000 in cash.

A former Mexican liaison officer who worked closely with U.S. law enforcement was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to passing on sensitive information to organized crime members in Tijuana, federal authorities said.
Jesus Quiñonez Marquez, 51, the former top liaison official for the Baja California attorney general’s office, was arrested in 2010 as part of a wide-ranging investigation targeting the remnants of the Arellano Felix drug cartel.

Reporting from Mexico City — The spaces for “Name of Father” are blank. But the L.A. County birth certificates list the mother, who happens to be the young wife of a highly sought-after drug lord, Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman.
Emma Coronel traveled to Southern California in mid-July and gave birth Aug. 15 to twin girls at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, according to birth records and a senior U.S. law enforcement official.
