WASHINGTON (UPI) — Mexican national Aurelio Cano Flores, a high-ranking member of the Gulf Cartel, was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison for drug-trafficking.

Cano Flores, 40, was given the prison term by a federal judge in the District of Columbia for conspiring to import tons of cocaine and marijuana into the United States, the Drug Enforcement Administration said in a release.

Cano Flores was ordered to forfeit $15 billion (sic) in drug proceeds, the federal law enforcement agency said. The money represents the gross receipts federal authorities allege the Gulf Cartel took in from distributing [...]

Authorities merely cite notes left near bodies alleging victims are associated with Mexican drug cartels, and often that is not the case

In Mexico’s savage drug wars, the innocent are not only shot, dismembered or hanged from overpasses. They are also falsely accused of crimes and their deaths are never investigated.

“The authorities will allege that the people being murdered are related to drug cartels, and it’s just not true,” said Guadalupe Correa-Cabrera, a professor at the University of Texas in Brownsville, who also does cartel violence research in [...]

In preparation for a 2016 presidential run, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is courting evangelical leaders. And we all know what that means! It’s time to throw those hedonistic, libertine, drug-obsessed libertarians under the bus. The Washington Post reports on how that’s going:

At a lunch Friday with about a dozen evangelical pastors in a Cedar Rapids hotel, the younger Paul assured the group that he disagrees with libertarians who support legalizing drugs. When one pastor inquired about ideological ties between Paul and his father, the senator asked that he be judged [...]

During his trip last week to Mexico and Costa Rica, President Obama sought to down play the U.S.’s security agenda in the region, emphasizing trade relations, energy cooperation and other more benign themes. In a May 3rd joint press conference with his Costa Rican counterpart Laura Chinchilla, Obama stated that it was necessary “to recognize that problems like narco-trafficking arise in part when a country is vulnerable because of poverty, because of institutions that are not working for the people, because young people don’t see a brighter [...]

One early morning in mid-January of 2013, Jesús Juárez opened the front door of his Brownsville, Texas home and saw a package. It had the typical FedEx markings on it, and despite the fact that his daughter’s boyfriend didn’t see it on his way out the night before, Jesús brought the package inside and opened it. Fortunately, only one of the four pipe bombs inside the package detonated, but just that single device blew out the front door and windows and severely burned him, his wife and their young daughter.

PINELLAS PARK, Florida — The man attacked by an alligator after fleeing police in Florida says he was in a fight for his life with the croc.

Twenty-year-old Bryan Zuniga tells Tampa Bay’s Fox 13 News Friday that he was swimming and trying to hide when a 6- to 8-foot gator lunged at him.

Zuniga says he was nearly knocked unconscious when the gator’s mouth hit his head. He fought back with both legs and the arm not caught between the alligator’s jaws.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says Zuniga ran away and into a water treatment [...]

Watch these Navy SEAL Team VI family members as they reveal the Obama Administration’s culpability in the death of their sons in the fatal helicopter crash in Afghanistan following the successful raid on bin Laden’s compound. This was a press conference held on May 9.

Any mention of a Judeo-Christian God was prohibited during the memorial service. Instead, a Muslim cleric was invited to talk. This cleric disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen by damning them as infidels to Allah (mins. 19:30 to [...]

A suspected marijuana trafficker went up in smoke on his front lawn — in a heated Miami shootout with detectives that was captured in clear, graphic surveillance video.

“This shooting is one of a very unique scenario in which there is a video of extremely high quality. You rarely have anything like that,” Ed Griffith, spokesperson for Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office told the Daily News.

Shown in court Thursday, the video clearly shows Gerardo Delgado emerge from a parked [...]

Opengate Capital Group LLC filed a lawsuit on Friday alleging that laboratory equipment maker Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc sold it a Mexican plant last year without revealing that a drug cartel was operating there.

The private equity firm claimed that the Reynosa, Mexico-based manufacturing facility, which it acquired as part of a larger deal from Thermo Fisher, had been regularly infiltrated by gangs from the Gulf Cartel since at least 2011, according to a copy of the complaint seen by Reuters.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, [...]

The Zetas drug cartel is marching north, not with a legion of hit men, but with a hoard of dollar bills.

In a string of prosecutions in Texas over the last year, federal prosecutors have tried to show that the gang of mercenaries-turned-mobsters laundered more than $80 million in legitimate U.S. industries.

Front men for the Zetas invested in restaurants and oil and gas companies, purchased property and aircraft and laundered millions of dollars in the U.S. quarter horse industry, according to court records. To facilitate their money-laundering [...]
